San Antonio
Overall rank: 1 - Forty Strongest U.S. Metro Economies - Business Week 09/10/2009
San Antonio, the second-largest city in Texas and the site of the battle of the Alamo, has one of the strongest job markets in the nation. Construction, which slowed during the recession, remains relatively robust, in part because of a new JW Marriott, a Caterpillar plant now under construction, as well as school, hospital, and military projects. Employment in San Antonio peaked in the second quarter of last year. Gross metropolitan product in the second quarter was down just 0.8% from the peak in the third quarter of 2008. Home prices grew 3.1% in the second quarter compared with the same period a year earlier. And the unemployment rate in June was 6.9%, up 2 points from a year earlier. (Please see below for the various criteria used by the Brookings Institution to determine the overall ranking.)
Job growth (since peak) rank: 3
Gross Metro Product (since peak) rank: 5
Unemployment change (year over year) rank: 4
Home price change (year over year) rank: 10
Gehan Homes has arrived in the Alamo City!
Gehan Homes is proud to announce that we will have four new communities in the San Antonio area coming in Winter and Spring ‘08. Gehan Homes has been building and selling new homes in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Austin, Texas for over 35 years. We plan to continue the Gehan philosophy here in San Antonio to build affordable, quality homes for families.
When you step into a Gehan home you will find soaring entryways, open floorplans, inviting kitchens/family rooms and creative use of space. Gehan carefully selects communities that are attractive and within easy commute to major employers. Gehan Homes is dedicated to providing families with affordability, value and the outstanding features most find in custom home building.
The first of these four communities to open is Gordon’s Grove. Gordon’s Grove is located just 6 minutes outside of Loop 1604 off of the newly extended Wiseman Road. This tree studded community, will offer seven distinct floor plans from Gehan Homes Classic Series with square footage from 2170 sq ft to 3475 sq ft. The model in Gordon’s Grove is located at 903 Grove Bend and is scheduled to open late January 2008.
The remaining communities, The Boulder’s at Canyon Springs, The Ridge at Lookout Canyon and The Enclave at Westover Hills will be opening in late winter early spring.
