Sometimes you can feel like what you do isn’t important, or doesn’t make a difference. It is easy to feel unmotivated and uninspired at times. The truth is, we all can’t work building schools in third world countries or feeding orphans in the poorest corners of the world. But in reality, you don’t have to make headlines in order to make a difference.
Just remember, no matter what you do, you have a chance to make an impact! Everything we do has an impact, positive or negative. The choice is yours. When you’re feeling unmotivated, think about what excites you most about what you do. What did you want to accomplish when you first started? How can you make your life and the lives of those around you just a little bit better, brighter, happier? As the Dalai Lama says, “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”
Check out this short story from one of our employees, that perfectly illustrates this principle:
I was finalizing the purchase of a new car and as I was completing the purchase with one of the managers, it came up in conversation that I worked for a homebuilder. He asked which one and when I said Gehan Homes, to my surprise he said he had just purchased one of our homes! He went on about how great the experience had been and how happy he was with his purchase. So happy, that since we took such great care of him, he said he wanted to return the favor and deeply discounted a final option that I wanted to put on the car! Thanks to everyone involved with making his experience so great, you saved me a little bit of money!
Everything you do matters. To everyone. All the time.
