Top 10 Bathroom Design Trends of 2018

Bathroom Designs

Bathrooms are often known as the most expensive rooms in a house by square feet.

But, for all their priciness, bathroom design trends move slowly -- meaning you will get years of bang for your buck.

If you're planning to remodel a bathroom or are building a new home, your return on investment might astound you. Real estate agents say that money invested in bathroom remodeling is typically won back in added sale value to the home -- and then some.

But you don't have to take our word for it! We've found the top ten bathroom design trends of 2018:

1. Subway Tile

Subway tile is always popular, but it's making an even bigger splash in recent years. Used for tile accents and backsplashes, many people are matching the subway tile in their kitchens to that of nearby bathrooms.

Buying subway tile in bulk can be cheaper, and it's an easy way to have a uniform kitchen and bathroom tile!

2. Smaller Spaces

Bathrooms are getting smaller, but are still packing in tons of value. Large couples-sized jet tubs are being replaced by rain showers and heated towel drawers. Our four cornerstones of a good home include personalization by you and your family, and smaller bathrooms are requested more and more.

3. Floor Heating

Speaking of heated towel drawers, underfloor heating is becoming popular and affordable. One of the most luxurious feelings after a shower is not immediately freezing when you step out. And floor heating systems make you feel like you're in a spa, but you get to experience it every day!

4. Accent Walls (or Floors)

A white or neutral toned bathroom with one special accent wall can really make the room pop. This is an easy way to accomplish a small bathroom remodel on a budget!

If you don't have an obvious wall, try honeycomb or a brightly colored tile for the floor. You don't need much to make the whole room buzz.

5. Surround Sound

If you have a smart home or a housewide speaker system, one of the most popular bathroom design trends is in-shower or internal speakers. Make sure your bathroom feels like a hotel at all times by having your iTunes or light spa music playing just for you. Getting ready in the morning will be peaceful and energizing.

6. No Theme

Years ago, a nautical theme, sports theme, or even an under the sea theme were common in bathroom design trends. Now, most people prefer neutrals with undertones of organic or natural grains and textures. It's much less about setting a scene, and much more about setting a mood.

7. Rain Showers

These are almost standard in luxury hotels, and people have started to get creative with their home shower set-ups, too. Whether you have a huge walk-in shower big enough for two, or just enough space to immerse one person in a rainfall, these aren't going anywhere any time soon.

8. Bright Lights

Vanity lighting and exceptionally bright makeup lights are a hot item in bathroom designs. Even if you don't have your own glamor team of hair and makeup, you can still feel like it in your bathroom!

9. Windows Up High

Natural light is important, but so is privacy. Long, thin windows that line the tops of bathrooms are becoming standard, especially in sunlight facing bathrooms.

10. No Fog Mirrors

They might be heated or specially treated, but there's nothing like a crystal clear mirror when you emerge from a steam shower. These are seen in luxury hotels, as well, and are beginning to creep into new and newly remodeled homes.
