Yale Living Room - Leander Crossing

Summer is just around the corner, and what better way to get in the mood for those long sunny days than by giving your home a fresh new look.

This year the interior design buzz is all about nature.

From deep ocean blues to spring leaf greens and coral pinks. The hot new interior design trends of 2019 are going to reflect Mother Nature at her most vibrant.

Read on to find out more about what's in and what's out in summer 2019.

What are the New Home Design Trends?

In: Sustainability

Environmental issues are never far from the headlines in 2019. Reflecting that is the interior design trend for sustainability.

But what does that mean exactly?

Sustainability is about making purchasing decisions that are ethical and sustainable to the planet. This means buying fewer short-lived items and buying with a view to longevity.

It also means buying items made from ethically sourced materials like sustainable wood and recycled fabrics.

Out: Clutter

This season clutter = chaos. Gone are the days of having eclectic objects on every surface. This season every item must have a purpose, and each room should feel calm and organized.

Remember, if it doesn't bring joy... it's got to go.

In: Bio Patterns

The summer of 2019 is all about the natural world. Whether you're a keen gardener or just love cool natural patterns, it's all about bringing the outside inside.

There has been a long tradition of floral patterns in interior design, and this year they are back in a big way.  But we're not talking about massive, bold designs. 2019 will see smaller more subtle floral and bio patterns in wallpaper and furnishings.

Out: Industrial

Remember when everywhere looked like an industrial cafe in New York? Well, concrete floors, bare brick, and exposed wires and pipes are well and truly over.

It was fun while it lasted, but it was not a subtle look and was often overdone. This year we are seeing a return to more traditional and subtle design trends, and less of the warehouse chic.

In: Handmade Artisanal Objects

This year will see a shift away from the mass-produced and a move towards handmade artisanal objects.

Unique objects with a back story create talking pieces as well as ticking the sustainability box. Items such as light shades, mirrors, and vases made from sustainable materials are set to be big this year.

Out: Gendered Colors

Blue for a boy, and pink for a girl. Well, not this year!

In the name of gender equality, we are sending gendered colors back to the dark ages where they belong. So that means no more decorating her spaces in pastels and his in masculine greys. Gender-neutral colors are the future.
